How this is calculated

Each monthly deposit compounds quarterly for the remaining time left in the tenure — the first deposit compounds longest, the last barely compounds at all. This is why RD maturity is noticeably less than depositing the same total as a lumpsum FD.

Tax treatment

RD interest is taxed at your marginal slab every year it accrues, same as FD — banks deduct TDS if your annual interest with them exceeds ₹40,000 (₹50,000 for senior citizens).

Questions
Can I withdraw an RD before maturity?

Most banks allow premature closure but typically apply a lower interest rate as a penalty — check your specific bank's terms before assuming you can exit early at the full rate.

Is this a simplified version of the real calculator?

No — it's the exact same calculator, opened with these values already filled in. There's no separate, simplified math happening on this page; everything below adjusts once you open it.
