NPS Calculator

National Pension System retirement corpus.

What is NPS?

National Pension System retirement corpus.

What does the NPS Calculator do?

The NPS Calculator takes your own numbers and projects the result using the method described below, showing every assumption rather than a single opaque figure.

How this is calculated — the formula

Your equity/debt split blends two illustrative long-run assumptions (12% equity, 7% debt) into one effective rate, which then compounds monthly like a SIP until age 60. At retirement, the mandatory annuity portion is assumed to pay out at 6% per year — actual annuity rates vary by provider and change over time.

Tax treatment

NPS contributions get a tax deduction under 80CCD, growth is tax-deferred, and up to 60% of the maturity corpus can be withdrawn tax-free as a lump sum — but the mandatory annuity portion is taxed as ordinary income each year you receive it in retirement.

Frequently asked questions
Is the NPS Calculator's result a fixed outcome?

No — every figure here is an illustrative projection based on the assumptions you enter, not a promised or fixed return. Change any input to see how the result moves.

Is tax already accounted for?

NPS contributions get a tax deduction under 80CCD, growth is tax-deferred, and up to 60% of the maturity corpus can be withdrawn tax-free as a lump sum — but the mandatory annuity portion is taxed as ordinary income each year you receive it in retirement.
